PLANNING NOTES / 21 OCTOBER 2026

A first day by the water

Start with the harbour rather than a long list of sights. Pick one stretch to walk, stop for lunch and leave time to sit. If you are staying in Barangaroo, the foreshore is a natural starting point; from Pyrmont, work your way towards the water before deciding how far to go.

Choose one neighbourhood for day two

Trying to fit every corner of Sydney into a weekend turns the city into a transfer schedule. Choose the kind of day you enjoy: galleries, cafés, a ferry outing or a longer waterfront walk. Make a wet-weather alternative so a shower does not undo the whole plan.

Make the hotel work for the trip

Compare the actual journey from the hotel to your main plans. A room with a view is lovely, but transport, check-in time and somewhere to leave your bag can matter just as much on a short visit.

Keep an evening open

Reserve anything essential, then leave the rest flexible. The best use of a hotel in an entertainment precinct may simply be dinner nearby and a good night’s sleep. There is no need to make the casino part of the itinerary.

A good trip has its limits.

Casino areas are for adults aged 18 and over. Gambling can cause harm. You can enjoy a hotel without gambling.
